Social Groups

Connection and companionship

Support groups play a vital role in helping people with sight loss stay connected, confident and informed. They offer a welcoming space to meet others, share experiences and access practical advice in a relaxed setting. Whether it is a social club, activity group or support meeting, these groups help reduce isolation, improve wellbeing and encourage independence, making everyday life more enjoyable and easier to navigate.

Shared experiences and understanding

Herts Vision Loss is keen to promote and support friendly local social clubs for blind and partially sighted people across Hertfordshire, including Sight Life groups that usually meet once a month for coffee and a chat, to hear guest speakers, or to enjoy trips out. These groups are open to anyone of any age with any form of sight loss and are currently based in Welwyn/Hatfield, Stevenage, Hemel Hempstead, St Albans and, since August 2024, Letchworth/Hitchin. We are always keen to help start new groups and to support existing ones, so if you know of a group that should be added to the list below, would like to discuss setting up a new group in your area, or are interested in volunteering, please get in touch.
