The Society is very fortunate in having the support of Patrons and Ambassadors who use their knowledge, networks and contacts to promote the development of HSB, including supporting fundraising.
The Society currently has the following patrons:-
Lady Joanna Staughton OBE, DL
Lady Staughton has been involved for many years in Hertfordshire and London in public service concerning children, health education, and the law. Having served as High Sheriff of Hertfordshire in 1994, Lady Staughton was appointed Deputy Lieutenant for the County in 1998. Her charitable work includes trusteeship of several Hertfordshire charities and is currently a Patron of The Hertfordshire Society for the Blind and an Advisory Member of the Hertfordshire Community Foundation. Lady Staughton was a member of the Board of Governors of the University of Hertfordshire from 1 September 2004 until 31 August 2012 and was Chairman of its Development Committee. She was awarded an OBE in the Queens New Year Honours list 2014, in recognition of her services to Hertfordshire.
The Rt Hon Grant Shapps MP
Born in Hertfordshire in 1968, Grant was educated at Watford Grammar and Cassio College Watford, before studying Business & Finance at Manchester in the late 1980s. In 1990, Grant founded his own printing company at the age of just 21.
Grant was elected as MP for Welwyn Hatfield at the 2005 General Election and re-elected In May 2010, after which, he became Minister of State for Housing & Local Government in the Coalition Government.
Heidi is the managing director of a manufacturing business in Hatfield. Originally from Yorkshire she moved “down South” in 1993 when she came to university in London. Before becoming self employed, she worked in operation management for large blue chip organisations. She believes that when people come together for a common cause, great things can be achieved. Heidi was elected as MP for South Cambridgeshire in May 2015.
Tony was the Managing Director of Berol Kemi UK Ltd and Business Development Director of Aon Consulting Financial Services. He took semi retirement in 2004 and was Bureau Manager of Welwyn Hatfield Citizen Advice Bureau until October 2008. He currently runs a small consultancy practice providing pre-retirement seminars for the NHS.
Teresa has been a member of Hertfordshire County Council since 2008 representing Harpenden South. She is currently the Executive Member for Public Health and Localism and Chair’s the County Council’s Public Health and Localism Panel, the Armed Forces Community Covenant Board and the Hertfordshire Lifestyle and Legacy Partnership. She is also a District Councillor serving on St Albans City and District Council since 2001.
Teresa worked for a FTSE 100 company for nearly 30 years within the Company Secretarial and Investor Relations spheres. She is currently a consultant with Equiniti dealing with Corporate Governance, when council duties allow.
